Believe in Me Foundation, Inc. (“Believe in Me”) is a Georgia non-profit corporation, with a 501(c)(3) categorization by the Internal Revenue Service. The founding Board Members were brought together by one common cause: their children, grandchildren and close friends are challenged by autism spectrum disorders. Believe in Me was not incorporated until May 3, 2007, but prior to that date, the Board of Directors organized several fundraisers in conjunction with the Early Intervention program at The Marcus Institute in Atlanta, Georgia. During the 2006-2007 school year, approximately $100,000.00 was raised by those involved with Believe in Me to directly benefit the Early Intervention program at the Marcus Institute, where Warner Jones, son of Board Members, Cammi and Bill Jones, Dante Doty, son of Board Member Shaun Doty and Joey Chiusano, son of board member, Jeff Chiusano, receive early intervention services in a full time program. Because many children who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders “age out” of early intervention programs, and unfortunately many are not diagnosed until much later in their childhood, the Board Members realized that thousands of children do not have access to appropriate educational programs, and many need specialized educational programs beyond early intervention to realize their full potential. The Foundation is developing an interdisciplinary approach to working with children incorporating state-of-the-art research and applied clinical practice in education, communication disorders, medicine and psychology. The programming will incorporate the advance of technology to assist children to learn in keeping with their strengths. The mission to raise money to build schools around the country to work with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders was begun to help the children become as independent and successful as they can be.
